Come to the Louisiana Downs Racetrack and Entertainment Center, 8000 E. Texas St. Bossier City. The Super Derby XXII, 3-year-old thoroughbreds racing for a purse of $500,000 will be Sept. 23. Cypress Lake Park Petting Zoo in Bossier Parish. This is the first tax supported zoo in the area since 1971. There will be deer, turkeys, doves, peacocks, rabbits, pigs, and more. Admission $3 charge per car.

The Norton Art Gallery is open 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Tues.-Fri., 1-5:00 p.m. Sat. and Sun 4747 Creswell Ave. Shreveport. The gallery features permanent exhibits of sculptures, drawings, and paintings. The South Wing offers special displays of contemporary art, rare guns, historic dolls, porcelain and glass. Admission is free.

There is an Art Exhibit at the Barnwell Garden and Art Center, 601 Clyde Fant Parkway Shreveport. The museum is open 10 a.m.-5:00 p.m. M-F and 1-5 p.m. Sat-Sun. at 4747 Creswell Ave. Admission is free.

Stephens African-American Museum is open 9 a.m.-2 p.m. M-F and 1-4 Sat, at 2610 Lindholm St. Shreveport. The museum features memorabilia of local and national African-Americans and a collection of paintings and sculptures by African-American artists. Admission is $1 students, and $2 adults. 

Tours by Design City Tours 12:30 p.m. daily at 910 Pierremont Rd, Suite 487 Shreveport. The tours feature Shreveport-Bossier area and an optional river and bayou cruise. Call 318-865-8805.
